Arlington is the third jewel in the crown of the Metroplex, and for the longest time was off-handedly thought of as “the city between Big D and Cowtown.” The city has made huge strides these past few decades in shaking off the “bedroom community” title it wore so many years. In 1961 the construction of Six Flags Over Texas, then the largest amusement park in the state, heralded a new era for Arlington. Six Flags Over Texas is still going strong, and now has the Wet’N’Wild water park as well. The Ballpark at Arlington was built in 1994 as the new home of the Texas Rangers, and has recently been joined by the Cowboys Stadium, a domed stadium complete with a retractable roof, that will serve as the new home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. It is no wonder, then, that Arlington has been called THE Entertainment Capital of Texas.
