It would be easy to drive through Mansfield, and be unaware that this lovely town with its homey charm is actually one of the fastest growing cities in the region. Located in southeastern Tarrant County and only 21 miles from Downtown Fort Worth, the city encompasses more than 50 miles and extends from Tarrant County into Johnson County and Ellis County, and allows residents here easy access to everything Fort Worth and Dallas have to offer. The town was named “Mansfeild” for the Man and Feild Mill, a three story brick grist mill – the repeated misspellings of “Feild” as “Field” finally resulted in the acceptance of the town as it is presently known, “Mansfield.” Another historic note is that Mansfield was the hometown of civil rights activist John Howard Griffin, whose award-winning book, “Black Like Me” is considered a groundbreaking work. Revitalization work has begun in earnest, and renovation plans include establishing Downtown Historic Mansfield as a center for work, play, festivals and celebrations.
