Even though it is the oldest town in Ellis County, Ovilla’s rolling hills and tree-lined streets have remained a secluded enclave within the already rural area of North Texas. Its authentic, distinctly Texan sentiment has proven useful for the filming of several episodes of Chuck Norris’ “Walker, Texas Ranger.” In fact, the television series used Ovilla’s historic downtown as the set for what was depicted as an old Native American town. Families and retirees are attracted to the Ovilla for the purity of its rich landscape, virtually non-existent crime rate, and small town charm. Other residential incentives include Ovilla’s affordable property taxes that are among the lowest in Ellis County. While the urbanization of many area towns creates the necessity for historic preservation, Ovilla has no such worries, as the city’s past is still very much alive today.
