Only three miles west of the Downtown Fort Worth is River Crest, a historic neighborhood that has literally watched Fort Worth grow from a single home to the city it is today. As Fort Worth grew, those who made their fortunes in the oil, livestock, banking and real estate industries built their homes here. The area includes the blocks surrounding the River Crest Country Club and Golf Course, which is considered the center of the district, and the neighborhood’s bungalows and mansions border the course. Historic Fort Worth, Inc. owns 31 of the neighborhood properties here, thus insuring the preservation of River Crest’s past. Many of the homes here were built in the period from the 1920s to the 1940s, although newer, modern homes can be found.
