Exceptionally located in northeastern Tarrant County and the southeastern portion of Denton County, Southlake was originally settled in the 1840s, and finally incorporated as a city in 1956. The original area communities of Whites Chapel, Dove, Union Church and Jellico make up the Southlake of today. It was not until the completion of DFW International Airport in the 1970s that Southlake began to leave its agricultural roots behind and step into a new era as a booming suburban Metroplex neighborhood.
In 2008, Forbes.com declared Southlake “the most affluent neighborhood in the United States based on average median household income estimates,” while in 2009, the city’s 76092 zip code was determined to be the richest zip code in the U.S. with a population between 10,000 and 25,000 people. As proof of the town’s prosperity and popularity, Southlake is home to Sabre Holdings, the parent company of Google, and Gateway Church, a non-denominational Christian megachurch, with an attendance of more than 16,000 attending services a week.
