Established only 35 years ago by the land development company Fox & Jacobs, The Colony has rapidly grown from a handful of homes in a farmland setting into one of the most remarkable towns in Denton County. Thanks to a young and flourishing community, the majority of whom are in their early thirties, The Colony’s retail economy has increased from the revenue generated by a single convenience store to six thriving shopping centers. Great local areas to cool off during the triple digit summer heat include the 23 miles of shoreline along the beautiful Lewisville Lake as well as The Colony’s Hawaiian Falls Waterpark. When it’s not too hot, outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to trek The Colony’s 23 established municipal parks, or play golf at any of its three nationally recognized golf courses. Speaking of sports, fans need look no further as The Colony was selected as the Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary Sportstown for the state of Texas, thanks to the town’s amazing premier sports facility, Five Star Complex, with its six baseball fields, six soccer fields, two football fields, and one softball field. Those interested in fine arts have the pleasure of attending plays at either the Lakeside Community Theatre or The Colony Playhouse. Residents with families can take advantage of both The Colony Independent School District’s TEA Recognized accountability rating as well as one of the lowest crime rates in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. In 1969, Dave Fox of Fox & Jacobs envisioned a “dream city” patterned after Dallas specifications. Today, The Colony has established itself as a town with the potential to make that dream a reality.
