A suburb of Fort Worth, Watauga is located on US 377, and was for many years an agricultural community. The town’s central location offers residents and businesses alike easy access to Highway 35W, Loop 820 and SH 121. There is some debate as to how the town came to its name: some believe its first white residents named Watauga in honor of a settlement with the same name in East Tennessee. Others are quick to point out that Watauga might have come from another early group of settlers to the area, as Watauga is a Cherokee word that means “village of many springs.” No matter the origin, the town with the unique name has seen many changes since those early days. Like many of its neighbors, Watauga has experienced a sharp rise in its population recently.
